No-CD & No-DVD Patch troubleshooting: The most common problem getting a No-CD/No-DVD patch to work is ensuring that the No-CD/No-DVD patch matches you're game version, because the games exe is changed when a patch update is applied previous versions won't work.
If its an older game you are playing and you are running Windows 7 or Windows 8 it may not work, if you right click the .exe file and choose Properties and then Compatibility you can change this to run in Windows 98/ Windows 2000 etc. You can find more information on the Beginners Help page here

I had way too much time on my hands, so here's a guide. It is not meant to be a step by step guide to modding oblivion, but will try to give an overview on various modding practices and questions.
Question- Where do i begin?
First off, you’re going to need a mod manager to well manage your mods and make them easier to install and uninstall. The alternative is installing them manually and that is just a mess that will lead you to trouble down the road.
Your choices are:
- Wrye Bash -The best, most powerful option, but some new users find it intimidating. In my opinion its very intuitive once you get the hang of it and is worth the learning curve. Needed for the 'Bashed Patch' and my recommendation.
- TES Mod Manager - Considered beginner friendly, but not as powerful as Wrye Bash. Most people will use in combination with WB for the few mods requiring TESMM. A good choice after WB.
- Mod Organizer - Needs a few workarounds for oblivion, but if you don't mind extra hassle and workarounds you can use this in combination with Wrye Bash. See bottom of page for workarounds or these great videos courtesy of /u/Tarvis_ ! Not recommended
- Each mod manager deserves a guide of their own, so they wont be explained here. After choosing one study tutorials until comfortable before beginning to install mods.
To do -Add links to mod manager tutorial videos here if i find them
- Do not use Nexus mod manager for oblivion!! ( OK, if you're only installing like 2 mods go for it..)
Now if you’re a complete beginner you need to understand some oblivion modding basics:
What makes up a mod?:
- Resources: These are textures, models, sounds etc. Typically they will be loose files or compressed in a BSA ( a Bethesda archive .bsa). If they are not installed correctly you may see giant triangle warnings and other problems in game. Can have conflicts when different mods change/use the same resources.
- Textures: Textures are resources that change how the objects looks and are typically safe to install and uninstall during a play-through. They are .dds files
- ESP/ESMs: The 'mods' that add resources and quests to your game. The order these load in can matter in case of conflicts, so we use a tool known as BOSS to sort them as ideally as possible ( That doesnt mean BOSS gets it perfect). A lower esp in your load order wins over a higher one when there is a conflict. It is bad practice to uninstall or move ESPs during an active play-through, so test all your mods on a throwaway character before finalizing your mod list.
- Oblivion Script Extender: OBSE is an extension for oblivion that gives mod makers more power to create more advanced mods. Many mods you install will be OBSE plugins and you need to install OBSE for these to work. OBSE cannot be installed with a mod manager, so install manually following its documentation (Copy the files from the archive into your Oblivion folder).
When you’re ready to start modding, save yourself some trouble ahead of time and follow good general practice.
- Before installing a mod, READ THE DOCUMENTATION CAREFULLY, and then you can install it according to any special instructions it may have.
- Make sure oblivion works after installing each mod (or every couple a mods at least) and save yourself from frustrating troubleshooting down the road.
- Always run BOSS ( Better oblivion sorting software) before playing after installing any new mods that have an 'esp' or 'esm', or you may crash to desktop or have other issues from conflicting mods. BOSS can sometimes give you feedback on the mods you have installed, so always check what it says on the report.
Essential Mods:
- The Unofficial Oblivion Patches: These fix the numerous bugs in vanilla oblivion and should be installed by everyone. You want the DLC patches and Shivering Isles patch too if you own them
- OBSE: You’re going to need this if you’re planning on installing popular mods.
- ENBoost: A mod to GREATLY help stability for heavily modded games. A guide courtesy of step for Skyrim ENBoost but should point you in the right direction. Cant be used at same time as ENB at the time of writing.
- Darnified UI or its spinoffs : Changes the UI from being designed for console users to something more friendly to the eyes of PC users. Wrye Bash friendly version available in the download section here. Tutorial Video courtesy of /u/Six18!
- The 4GB patch: Patches the 'Oblivion.exe' to allow it more memory since oblivion was designed during the windows xp days. Helps with heavily modded games. x64 PCs only. It can't be installed with a mod manager.
- Oblivion Stutter Remover: An obse plugin that helps with stutter problems and can be used to cap fps. The most useful feature is its heap replacement and it should be turned on the INI. I recommend heap 6 for most people. If you have a problem with weapon sounds it may be related to this mod. Get version 4.1.37
- A To Take All: Lets you press the A button to take all items from a chest/body etc. A life saver. Requires OBSE
- EngineBugFixes: Fixes a crash related to trees among other things!
- Toggleable Quantity Prompt: Adds hotkeys to make buying/selling/taking items much quicker and more practical. Requires OBSE

Depreciated/Unstable/Mods to avoid:
- Unlimited Amulets and Rings - Can be configured in Bashed patch
- Quest Award leveling - Use AULIAS instead. Requires OBSE
- Quest Award Leveler - Causes bashed patch to throw up errors. Use AULIAS instead.
- Vampire aging disabled - Included in the bashed patch and an optional file for UOP. Dont use the UOP version if using a bashed patch.
- Streamline - Oblivion Reloaded has a much more capable frame-rate manager, but you could still use this for the save feature.
- Custom Race Fix - Included in the UOP
- Pluggy - Older versions can cause crashes. See here
- Windom Earles Oblivion Crash Prevention System - Currently not available for download, but worth mentioning it is either unhelpful or problem causing so do not use.
- Oblivion Script Optimization - Need source, but may cause more problems then it helps Football manager 2015 patch download.
- Natural Environments - Natural Weather is very buggy. Use Weather - All natural + Enhanced Vegetation for the same/ better effect. Optionally you can use the fixed 'Simple weathers esp' version from here.
- OBGE and its dependants - Superseded by the much more powerful Oblivion Reloaded
- Living Economy - Has bugs and its recommended to use Enhanced Economy in its place.
- Keychain - Toggle off key section with Darnified UI instead
- Oblivion XP - Superseded by the much improved Oblivion XP update
- HUD Status Bars - This mod is fine, but use HUD Status Bars enhanced along with HUD Status Bars.
- Reneers Guard overhaul - Introduces instability and other problems. Use at own risk

Archive Invalidation
You will need to configure 'Archive invalidation', which makes sure oblivion knows you want to use your custom files instead of vanilla ones. If you do not, custom textures/armors will not show up in game.
- Wrye Bash will do this automatically.
- Oblivion Mod Manager - Use the BSA Redirection option under 'Utilities - Archive invalidation'
- Nexus Mod Manager - Has an option in your settings to toggle Archive invalidation on.
Advanced modding practices
Cleaning “Dirty” Mods: Elisa seduce the innkeeper patch download.
Mods like the vanilla oblivion ESPs and mods released during the early oblivion modding days might contain records that are unneeded and potentially harmful ( crash causing) that were added due to bugs in the oblivion construction set and bad modding practice. These mods should be cleaned with a tool called “TES4Edit”.
All the oblivion DLC should be cleaned, and anything else boss reports as needing cleaning
Since there are already great tutorials on how to do this I won’t explain how to do it here. Here’s a great tutorial made for skyrim but it’s the same procedure for oblivion mods.
Creating a Bashed Patch:
Wrye Bash has the ability to create a mod that applies tweaks and help your mods play nicely with each other called a “ Bashed Patch”. If you use mods that add new creatures or items or npc faces, you will almost definitely benefit from a bashed patch. Only near vanilla mod lists won’t need a bashed patch.
If you decide on using one, understand you have to remake the patch anytime your mod list changes and you install or remove a mod ( that has an esp).
Building the Patch:
- Make sure you’ve ran boss and your load order is finalized.
- Load up Wrye Bash and in the “mods tab” you will see the bashed patch already at the bottom. It will be called “Bashed Patch, 0.esp”
- Right click on “Bashed Patch, 0.esp” and choose “Rebuild Patch”
- If you don’t want mods to be merged into the bashed patch and then deactivated, hit skip if it asks to merge and uncheck “Merge Patches” on the next screen. If you dont care either way you can leave this as default, but dont reactivate the mods Wrye Bash deactivates.
- Check over any settings that you may want. If you don’t understand the options, leaving them as default is fine.
- Hit “Build Patch” when you’re done and hit yes to active bashed patch when it asks. Normally bashed patch is the last in your load order. Boss gets it right, so run boss.
- Repeat anytime your load order changes ( but don't change your load order if you can help it). Madden 08 pc patch download.

For further reading and explanation of the bashed patch, I recommending reading the documents that come with Wrye Bash, as they are very thorough.
Generating DistantLOD
If you ever see floating trees in the distance or things generally are off you might need to regenerate your distant lod with 'TES4LODGen'.
It's as easy to use as just downloading it and running it, but i recommend creating a shortcut to TES4LODGen with a parameter such as '-O:'c:lodgenoutput' so the files don't get generated in your oblivion folder and then installing it as a mod so its easier to uninstall later if need be. (Turn the outputed files into an archive and install with Wrye bash, if you're using it) Its hard to see but here's an example
Mod Organizer and Oblivion
This is not going to explain how to use MO, but only the workarounds it needs for Oblivion to work with OBSE. There are plenty of great videos on how to use MO on youtube that you should check out.
- OBSE plugins can not be installed with mod organizer and have to be installed manually outside of MO. OBSE plugins are '.DLL' files that go in the 'DataOBSEPlugins' folder in your oblivion directory. Install these DLLs manually into that folder or just install any OBSE mod with another manager like Wrye Bash.
- In MO go to settings, workarounds and set the load mechanism to Script Extender and then click ok. This essential sets mod organizer to work as an OBSE plugin and now you can launch from your steam/oblivion icon as normal ( Not from inside MO).
If you're using steam and want to be able to launch the game from Mod Organizer you have to add a custom executable shortcut to MO.
- Start the Modify executables dialog to create a new executable.
- Give the executable a title. I called mine Steam.
- In the Binary box navigate to where you have steam installed. In my case it is C:SteamSteam.exe.
- In the arguments box add the following argument -applaunch 22330. Click add and Ok. Example
- In the selector next to run select your new executable and press run. The configuration panel will open up. Click play and enjoy.'
Credits: Steps to use MO and Oblivion borrowed from this thread.
Notes:
- All these steps apply to the steam version of oblivion and I am not sure if its the same for non steam.
- BAIN mods can be installed with MO, and it will recognize the file format, but will not work with BAIN wizards as far as I know.
- I also recommend using Mod Organizers automatic archive invalidation that can be turned on in your profile settings as shown
Troubleshooting
After playing for many hours on a character doors and container animations are going very slowly.
- You may have whats called the 'Abomb'. Luckily you can use Wrye Bash to fix it.
- After backing up your save, go to the 'Saves tab' in wrye bash.
- Right click on the save and select 'Repair Abomb' and thats it.
